Sunken City Sunset Session

Anyone else wishing Summer would never end? The Puerto Rican-California girl in me is still wishing I could be prancing around in bikinis all year around. Since it's cooling down, beach days are a bit different now. Instead of bringing a couple suits to change into, I'm bringing a couple long sleeves or jackets to wear. Once the sun drops, I turn into a popsicle.

I've been exploring a new part of Southern California lately. My mom lives around Long Beach, so I'm taking the time to check out the neighborhoods and find new spots to shoot around. The other day, my friend Emily wanted to meet up to shoot a little bit, and when I told her I was down here instead of in Hollywood, she was down for the adventure in her old stomping grounds. Her being from the area originally, she knew the perfect spot for us to shoot, smoke & enjoy the sunset. Sunken City reminded me a lot of La Perla in Puerto Rico. For those of you who do not know what La Perla is, it's a barrio tucked by the ocean below El Morro in Old San Juan. It has colored houses lined up from side to side, graffiti work from the locals, and a pool right by the ocean that gets filled on extremely hot occasions.

LA PERLA in San Juan, Puerto Rico - 2017

Here's a couple photos I had stashed on my phone from La Perla.
It's definitely a cool hidden spot of San Juan. Can you see some similarities too?

Clearly, Sunken City is a way more destroyed than La Perla, but the grungy, ocean vibes are there & that's the mood I'm always going for. Emily helped me out with some photos I'm working on for a Budweiser campaign, so I gave her a little camera lesson & showed her some tricks to the trade. Once we collected all the photos we needed for work, put that aside & shot some images ourselves that we are currently OBSESSING over. No seriously, I don't think you get how stoked we are. We shot for maybe an hour and a half to two hours & came out with pure beauty. Sometimes your favorite images are the ones that just come naturally to you.

Be sure to follow Emily, she and I create content pretty often, so you guys might have seen her on my feed a few times.

If you liked this set, and felt the need to check out La Perla or Sunken City on your own, let me know! Share your photos & tags with me on instagram!

You know where to find me.
